posted on july 11, 2017 leave a comment on 5 for happiness three ingredients of happiness i have recently read an article where it is stated that scientists have discovered that the three ingredients of happiness are: 1) loving relationship 2) good job (that you enjoy / that you are passionate about) 3) something to look forward to (as an aspiration). it made me think about it as i would certainly add strong family and good friends to that list. when we look at the three ingredients, the two (loving relationship and good job) should be happening in the present for us to be happy now, while aspiration is our drive or hope that we want to achieve something more in life. maybe a new house or studying for a phd or better job or more traveling, etc. it is a dream that we want to achieve while actively taking steps toward it that make us feel energetic, maybe a bit anxious but also happy. when i looked at 3 ingredients i must admit that i still have to find a loving relationship but in the work department i have been quite happy as i worked for united nations on various jobs that were very fulfilling for me. my aspiration remains to help others in any way i can and i have realized that when i do that i feel profound happiness and the sense of achievement. in that regard, your recent comments about the blog made me very happy as i was not sure if anyone is reading my articles and i have started this out of pure desire to write about something that i really like and feel passionate about. so to go back to the third ingredient of happiness in regard to this blog, my aspiration would be that this blog becomes a place where everyone can write about their experiences with happiness and how they achieved or strive to achieve a more satisfied life. i am still in search for that answer and together i am sure we will be able to tackle it from more sides. to conclude, please let me know how you feel about the 3 ingredients of happiness and if you think that more should be added to the list. also, if you are really happy in any of the stated ingredient of happiness let us know your experience- i would love to hear your views and advice! posted on may 17, 2017 may 17, 2017 leave a comment on three ingredients of happiness happiness comes from within everyday we see posts from our friends on facebook and instagram which look like a beauty and luxury contest. most of the posts are updates from vacation, luxury travels and expensive restaurants. they all seem happy and satisfied with their lives. many times it makes us feel as if we are not living, comparing to them. that notion can leave us sad and unhappy. taking aside that many of the posts hide the real truth of sadness, boredom and depression, it is important to concentrate on us–who we really are and what we really want to achieve in life. imitating others can leave us more sad and depressed. real happiness comes from within, being true to yourself, knowing who you are, knowing your limits and having a sense of accomplishing something that is valuable to us. it can be as important as having an inner peace, to having a great family and friends or loved ones or accomplishing something significant in professional life. whatever that is, it is important to acknowledge it, understand how that accomplishment is valuable to us and be grateful for what we have. that feeling will keep us happy and satisfied and will give us additional energy to work on ourselves more towards accomplishing more goals and having a more happy and satisfied life. posted on march 5, 2017 march 5, 2017 leave a comment on happiness comes from within happiness and conflict i have been conflict-averse for the most of my life. i thought that if i do not participate in a conflict, everybody will be happy. i also thought that if i criticize behavior of my friends, they would get angry and i will lose their friendship. so, for me the easiest was to stay passive. but that created other problems. i lost self-respect for myself because many times instead of protecting myself and my beliefs, i stood silent and let other walk over me. my level of happiness was low because i was not genuinely happy for myself. that has changed in the past years after reading many books and realizing that standing for my values and beliefs is the key to my self-esteem and happiness. i have started expressing myself more clearly first to strangers and then to friends and family. i have realized that saying ‘no’ to some requests or just stating that i am not happy about concrete behavior did not result in losing friends, quite the opposite. they have started to respect me more. and i have started to respect myself. i caught myself arguing and expressing myself much more than ever before. i have gained my self-confidence and my level of happiness increased. there is still some way to go, but i am quite happy what i have achieved so far. do not be afraid to stand for your believe. do not be afraid to argue for what you think is right. we are all unique individuals and we all have the right to express ourselves. more healthy and more happy life is just around the corner……try it yourself! posted on february 22, 2017 february 22, 2017 leave a comment on happiness and conflict time to re-energize yourself every day we are bombarded with news and information where majority of what we read is about wars, scandals, human tragedies. i have caught myself taking my ipad and phone to bed and reading the news before i go to sleep. that has substantially decreased my motivation and energy levels in the morning and three months ago, i decided to change that habit. my ipad and my phone are off limits in my bed and i have committed myself to spend 30 minutes before sleep to read an interesting book (not work related) and to write in my notebook 5 things why i am grateful for that day. it can be anything from being grateful that it was sunny, to spending time with friends and family or just being grateful for reading a good book. when i write about it, it is important that you really feel it (you can imagine in your mind the moment when you have realized that it was a nice and sunny day) and not just do it automatically. after just few days i have noticed that i woke up more fresh and more energized. i think that sometimes we need to help ourselves to achieve the level of desired happiness, by shutting off bad info and negative thoughts before going to bed. try it and let me know how it works for you!
